The Talk:
This
presentation focuses on the issues of legal citizenship among ethnic
minority peoples in Northern Thailand. It touches on the historical
backgrounds of ethnic groups and state’s citizenship projects.
The two presenters will address the following questions. Why
didn’t villagers seek citizenship in the past? Why are they eager to
obtain it now? Why do hundreds of thousands of individuals from ethnic
minorities still lack citizens?
The Speakers:
Mukdawan
Sakboon and Prasit Leepreecha are faculty members at the Department of
Social Science and Development, Faculty of Social Science, Chiang Mai
University.
